The Post In Which I Do Not feel Bad For Zimmerman
The reality of killing someone rarely matches the fantasy of the macho gunslinger. Boo fucking hoo for Zimmerman:
“He couldn’t stop crying. He’s a caring human being,” Joe Oliver, 53, a former television news reporter and anchor in Orlando who has known Zimmerman for several years, told Reuters in a telephone interview.
“I mean, he took a man’s life and he has no idea what to do about it. He’s extremely remorseful about it,” Oliver said, relating stories told to him by Zimmerman’s mother-in-law, a close friend of Oliver’s wife.
Despite the NRA’s ongoing attempt to turn all of America back into the wild, wild West, actually giving people the idea that they can shoot their way through any confrontation is not a healthy mindset. The “justified” homicide rate tripled in Florida after the “Shoot first” law was passed. Was there a corresponding drop in assaults and other violent crime? No. How do we know this? Because if there had been, the GOP would be on TV, right now, screaming about how more guns make us safer and here’s the proof. More guns never “make us safer.” It just leads to more Trayvon Martins.
Unless the other person has a gun, knife or other weapon, no rational person can conclude that it’s worth a life to avoid getting mugged or beat up.
BTW, This is not helping:
The New Black Panther Party, an African American organization taking its name from the radical group of the 1960s, has placed a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman.
Note that the article fails to mention that the members of the original Black Panther Party have openly repudiated the appropriation of their name and even sued to have them stop using it. The NBP are a handful of nuts that Fox News loves to trot out as proof that all blacks are out to get whitey.
