Proud to be a Filthy Liberal Scum

Loud, Proud and I don't care about hurting a conservative's feelings!

An Open Letter To Conservatives Defending George Zimmerman (Op-Ed)

Dear conservatives,

May I please point out an obvious fact that seems to have eluded you in your rush to oppose what you wrongly see as a liberal issue? It doesn’t matter if Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie. It doesn’t matter if he was suspended from school. It doesn’t matter if he looked “gangsta.” It doesn’t matter if he was a good kid or a bad kid. He could have been a hard core thug destined for a life of crime. He could have been an athlete destined for the hall of fame. He could have been just some schmuck destined for a life of pure mediocrity. None of this matters.

The ONLY thing that matters is that AT THAT MOMENT, all Trayvon Martin was, was a 17 year old kid walking back from the store with Skittles and an iced tea. He was walking back to his father’s house and had every right to be there. He tried to get away from some strange person following him and was chased and confronted. Either he felt threatened and attacked Zimmerman who then shot him or was provoked by Zimmerman who then shot him. In either case, Zimmerman was the aggressor.

We all known that Zimmerman pursued Martin because he was black. How do we know this? Because the very idea that he would have followed a white kid is risible. Even now, you can’t form the mental image of it and make it believable. You might as well picture Zimmerman following a suspicious unicorn. Trayvon Martin was killed for walking while black.

As you and the right wing media step up your assault on Trayvon’s character and reputation, think about why you are doing it. Do you even know? Is it because you feel bad for Zimmerman? A paranoid cop wannabe that was previously arrested for assaulting a police officer? You don’t care about Zimmerman. Don’t kid yourself. What you do care about is that “liberals” and “those people” are making such a big deal about it. And that’s what this is really about for you, isn’t it? You are so conditioned to oppose every single thing that comes from the “left” that you cannot help but take the other side. Even when that side is morally repugnant.

Seriously. Are you even listening to yourselves? You’re defending a guy that hunted down a kid and shot him. What’s wrong with you? Are you insane? Are you aware of just how far you’re off the reservation on this? Because liberals are making the point that the “stand your ground” law is flawed because it leads to this kind of tragedy by creating an environment where the George Zimmermans of the world feel they have the right to run people down and shoot them in “self-defense”, you automatically push back because maybe the unarmed kid had it coming? Really? What’s next? If liberals push for better airbags in cars you’ll scream that safety features take away your freedom to die horribly in a car crash? Aren’t you all pro-“life”? What’s the worst that would have happened to Zimmerman? He might have gotten his ass kicked? Do you really think Martin would have beaten him to death with his bare hands? Do you have any idea how hard that is to do? So, for you, the pro-“lifers”, avoiding a few bruises to worth a life? Look in a mirror and say that out loud. See if you can maintain eye contact with yourself. Look at your children and say that to them. See what kind of response it gets. Go to your church and say that to your reverend or priest. See if he agrees.

If you honestly think that you’re defending conservative values by supporting a murderer, maybe you should take a hard look at what it is you are defending and ask yourself if it’s worth debasing your soul and your conscience to do so.

  1. Spot on Justin…as usual. I admire you for taking on this subject…I still can’t get past the amount of hatred the right seems to have. It’s left me a bit incapacitated lately. Thank the Universe for people like yourself. For your courage. I hope some of it rubs off on people like me.

What phoenix said: you laid it out. I definitely couldn’t have articulated it better.

  3. Justin, you took the words right out of my mouth on this. There have been 4-or-5 more shootings since Trayvon’s.

  4. Over the last few days I have felt so disheartened regarding my feelings about Trayvon’s fate. Shocked that people I considered not only friends, but capable of rational thought have basically said – out loud and in print – that racism does not exist and that the media has blown this way out of proportion. I have been slammed for being a reactionary and ‘concentrating on the negative’ for expressing not only outrage that Zimmerman has not been arrested, but for standing in solidarity with Trayvon’s family. I was just told a few minutes ago that I ‘should not rush to judgement because we do not have all the facts.’

I just wanted to thank you for giving me validation.

Sorry, you don’t know the facts just like myself. Here are some we do know….Trayvon was tresspassing, he did not live there, neither did his father, the shooter had every right to stop, question and follow him per the Sanford PD chief.

Opinion, they were fighting over a gun that was holstered and it went off or shooter was in fear of his life because the large street fighter said he was going go kill him, that is what the witness has said.

So, please don’t use opinion cloud the facts.

    • Ah, so staying with his father, who DOES live there (with his girlfriend), makes him a trespasser? Interesting. But let’s say you’re right. Let’s say that the Martins were just visiting a friend. How, exactly, does that make him a trespasser?

And no one has the authority to stop and question anyone who is not an officer of the law. This is America, even in a gated community.

Thank you for showcasing the depths that people will sink to in order to justify the murder of an unarmed teenager for the crime of walking while black.

Actually, if I see something suspicious in my neighborhood, it is my RIGHT and I feel my DUTY as a citizen to investigate, question, and interfere with whatever suspicious activity I witness. If the perpetrator decides to go offensive on me, I personally have no issue with using force to stop the threat. This is what you are missing out on. This is about self defense, not left vs right.

      • Walking home is not suspicious and if the cops tell you to stay in the car and you still get out, pursue and instigate a confrontation, it’s not self-defense.
