No Money Saved By Drug Testing Welfare Recipients?! How Can That Be?!
In a shocking turn of events, Rick Scott’s fool proof plan to catch those wascally drug users failed miserably. It did not save money or reduce the number of applicants and ended up costing the state money. It did, however, make money for the drug testing companies, one of which Rick Scott is an owner. Oh, I’m sorry, his wife, is an owner. See? No conflict of interest there at all.
That doesn’t stop the right from continuing to support this kind of legislation. In fact, several more states are introducing laws JUST like it! Almost as if they had a model piece of legislation to base it on…
I hope they remember to remove the ALEC mission statement first.
The truth, however, is that these laws are not to “save the taxpayers money.” They exist to punish the poor for seeking assistance. Once they can drug test, the GOP will make some other demand and then another and another. It’ll be totally reasonable unless you look at whether or not it works. Right now, we know, for a fact, that drug testing costs the state tens of thousands of dollars but Republicans are still drooling over the idea of punishing the poor and literally pissing away tax dollars.
Anyone on public assistance that votes for a Republican is an imbecile. Anyone that claims Republicans are fiscally responsible is probably on drugs themselves. Anyone that thinks Republicans have the best interest of the country at heart is brain damaged.
